Weeping Creek Valley Area Guide

Overview

Where the Game Properly Begins

Weeping Creek Valley is the first semi-open area and the place Phantom Blade Zero stops tutoring and starts trusting you. The valley packs the game's introduction to its checkpoint system (Bells, which refill health, Medicine uses and Phantom Edge sparks without respawning enemies), its first optional Rift boss, and two story bosses — Peng Meng the Axemaster and Hua, Deadly Betrothed. The chapter arc here is "Against the Flow", and its opening scene at the broken carriage starts the side quest Whence the Weeping, one of the valley's several missable-side-quest flags.

Sha-Chi Towers and the Metroidvania Layer

The valley opens the game's semi-open exploration loop.

The valley's Sha-Qi Tower is guarded by three Copper-Skinned Monks, and beating them is the price of one Blackstone Fragment. This is also the first area where the game visibly locks paths behind tools you do not yet own — the Dread Axe breaks chain barriers and the Hunter's Chain Sickle opens traversal routes, so a full sweep of the valley happens twice: once now, once after later regions hand you the keys.

Recommended Preparation

Before Peng Meng and Hua

Rest at every Bell you pass — the valley is where the game teaches that resting refills Medicine and sparks but never respawns enemies, so there is no cost. Carry at least one two-handed weapon in your second slot: Peng Meng's axe trades reward heavy weapons, and the switching system refills your Sha-Chi mid-fight. The side quests here (Yu'Er's medicine-gathering among them) expire as the main story moves on, so clear them before you take the valley's exit.

  • A second weapon slot filled — switching resets your Sha-Chi gauge mid-fight
  • All valley side quests turned in before the main mission — Yu'Er relocates and her quest vanishes
  • Three Copper-Skinned Monks cleared at the Sha-Qi Tower base for a Blackstone Fragment

Quests

Whence the Weeping

The valley's signature side quest starts at the broken carriage where the chapter opens. Like most Weeping Creek side content it is on a timer: the game does not warn you when a quest giver leaves, so the safe habit is to finish every tracked quest in the region before advancing the main mission.

Yu'Er's Medicines

Yu'Er asks for medicinal plants and relocates as the main story progresses — past a certain point she is simply gone. It is the game's clearest lesson that side quests live inside region windows.
